Countdown to Kickoff 2017

FIRST Overview

FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was created in 1989 by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers to inspire youth and help them become leaders in scientific and technological fields. Two ideas stressed by FIRST are cooperation and gracious professionalism, the idea of being helpful and professional while competing and interacting with other teams.

FIRST runs four types of competitions for youth from ages 6-18:

  •         Jr. FLL (Junior First Lego League)
  •         FLL (First Lego League)
  •         FTC (First Tech Challenge)
  •         FRC (First Robotics Competition)

Team Overview

Chantilly Robotics 612 is part of FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization created in 1989 to inspire youth to become leaders in scientific and technological fields. As participants of the annual FIRST Robotics Competition, Team 612, along with other teams across the world, has six weeks to design, build, and program a robot to compete against each other in a given challenge.

CAD

Using computer software to form objects in virtual space, CAD designs the team’s robot, making sure that limitations are kept in check, before creating blueprints for the mechanical team to assemble. 

Leadership

Leadership is in charge of the team, making sure that it can run smoothly and efficiently. They make decisions that directly influence how the team will develop.

Electrical

Electrical is responsible for designing an electrical board that fits the CAD design, connecting the electrical components, and managing the pneumatics that give our robot the power to move.

Mechanical

Mechanical is responsible for taking the CAD blueprints and creating custom parts that are all assembled to make different parts of the robot.

Programming

Programming writes all of the software that runs our robot using the libraries provided by WPI in combination with C++. 

Marketing

Marketing is in charge of spreading FIRST and STEM to the community through outreach events. They are also in charge of funding the team through finding corporate sponsors for team sponsorships.
